Director of Advancement - Julie Houle

November 3, 2020 - The Nickel District Conservation Foundation (NDCF) is pleased to announce a significant new addition to their organization. Julie Houle joined the Foundation in August as the new Director of Advancement. As Director, Julie will play an integral role in advancing the Foundation’s mission by developing philanthropic strategies and increasing fundraising opportunities.

AREA RESIDENTS REMINDED TO USE CAUTION AND ALWAYS BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCIES

Sudbury – Conservation Sudbury hosted its annual spring Flood Contingency Planning meeting today at Tom Davies Square. The most recent information regarding snow pack and water levels was shared and preparedness for the upcoming spring runoff was discussed. The following organizations participated:

  • City of Greater Sudbury
  • Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry
  • Canadian Red Cross
  • Vale Canada
  • Glencore (SINO)
  • Ontario Power Generation
  • Greater Sudbury Police Service
  • Enbridge Gas

Conservation Sudbury Completes Low Impact Development Pilot Project

On Thursday evening Conservation Sudbury held a walk-through and grand opening of a low impact development (LID) pilot project recently completed in partnership with the City of Greater Sudbury. The event, held at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, was attended by community members as well as project partners including Greenland International Consulting, TeraNorth Construction & Engineering Limited and Hollandia Land and Environmental Solutions.

LID, also known as green infrastructure, is a storm-water management approach that uses natural features such as specialized soils and native tree, shrub, and perennial species as its infrastructure. The goal of LID is to mimic pre-development hydrological conditions.

LID also known as green infrastructure is an innovative stormwater management technique that utilizes natural features such as specialized soils, stone, and native tree, shrub, and perennial species as its infrastructure.

South Bay Road, SUDBURY – Yesterday NDCF Chairman Peter Edmunds thanked three organizations that provided a combined $6 500 in donations to bring kayaks for kids to Lake Laurentian, namely: 

  • The Sudbury Community Foundation - $2,500
  • The Gord and Pat Slade Heritage Fund - $2,500
  • Adventure 365 - $1,500
